Whats the best BB cream to use for acne prone skin : TBS, ponds, Garnier or Maybelline ?

Bb creams are comedogenic..go through comedogenic ingredients and you will be better judge of choosing right product..the brands u mentioned have one or other comedogenic ingredients..garnier,maybelline,ponds are not good..they are articles regarding that here on acnemantra so check out..

The Korean brands are not available here , the western one`s are so-so and yes they`ll break you out in all probability. I`ve used the colorbar instant cover up stick DO NOT USE IT as mentioned in the post , it broke me out and aggravated my skin`s oiliness. I`m still on the lookout for a good but affordable concealer. One such product is MUFE full cover cream it has the best reviews of all the concealers for concealing acne and acne scars. (It is available via medplusbeauty in only one shade hence I didnt opt for it ).

Another concealer worth a mention is the Kryolan Dermacolor concealer (relatively more affordable at around 400 for a small jar – but this one is heavy and cakey. Very heavy in fact , looks unnatural but conceals spots extremely well when used with the Kryolan dermacolor powder ).

I`ll try the colorbar full cover pot one. I hope it wont betray me. If it does , I will use it to create fun lipcolors out of dark lipshades that were gifted to me by colorblind relatives on my 19th bday -_- . The microwave should serve as it`s hell fire along with those insane colours. XD

Hi Keemcalm, nice to see you back. :) Thanks for the heads up about the stick concealer. The Colorbar pot one looks safer, with no comedogenic ingredients standing out. I use the stick one and it sits well with my skin, but I’m no longer battling acne like before (APST 2 now instead of APST 3). I tried the pot one at the store, it seemed to have dried up a bit but so had the MAC Studio Finish one at the MAC store so.. I found both the pot concealers comparable.

You’re right about the Kryolan ones. We need concealers with natural coverage that will not look cakey. For daily wear, it is okay even if a concealer doesn’t cover 100%.

      Go ahead, nuke them concealers!

stick concealers dont really work, coverage aint good and they do cause breakout..

Oh I cant stay off this site even if I`m banished from it :P The MAC studiofix is a good option , yes…but I`ve read about people having adverse reactions to some of the ingredients from MAC products , but it still works for those who are done with acne .

Oh and I saw this video post where the person who successfully has battled really catastrophic cystic acne with Fish oil supplements (Vitaminshoppe has a ridiculously expensiveo ne which you mentioned I think before , available on healthkart and in india ) and keeping the skin hydrated and following a clean diet . He mentioned that benzoyl peroxide is not that effective in the long run. Would you do a post on the effectiveness of benzoyl peroxide , since it is widely advertised as beneficial in The Regimen in acne.org also in Proactic (which makes acne worse apparently ). I think benzoyl peroxide is okay for treating a small pimple or two on the surface , by introducing oxygen into the comedone and killing the bacteria. But for cystic acne it is not that effective .

Oh and yes , another post request *makes puppy face* *along with fruitcake face – I`m a natural at that :P * on the diet one should follow. Your opinion on cutting out dairy from the diet and eliminating fried foods. :P (I bother you so much , but it`s worth it I think :P )

Thanks, think will skip concealer and BB cream and use only a foundation and compact. Read the reviews on the site – but wanted to know which ones are personally used by Acne mantra, Keepcalm and Tejupriya ? :)

Hi Happy, join the club. All of us (Keepcalm, Tejupriya, me) have got enough lashings from acne that we’ve learnt not to mess with products on a whim. :)

Happy honestly concealer is not crucial part of everyday make up..since my skin is clearing out,I love that I don’t have to wear make up often..personally for me sunscreen, oil free moisturiser(sebamed clear face gel),and a little compact does the trick..foundation,concealer are reserved for special occasions..that too I make it a point to remove properly once I get home..u try that a good oil free compact is enough..I have learnt my mistake of experimenting with products..moral of the story stick to basics, minimal only, keeps acne at bay..unfortunately there is so many products claiming for acne oily skin which aren’t meant for them..they just make acne from bad to worse..lack of knowledge is the problem ..I have put a list of comedogenic ingredients on my pin up board..it helps me judge a product,I have disposed every comedogenic product..

      TejuPriya June 6, 2013 at 6:28 pm #

happy BB creams are just a way to lure customers..i simply dont see the necessity of using it if u have ur basics correct oil free moisturizer,sunscreen..why necessarily add products tell me?BB creams are latest fad in the current market..i tried too just once tested maybelline bb cream and the reaction was bad..later found out on acnemantra they are loaded with comedogenic ingredients so dont try ..if ur apst 1/2 why dont u try lactocalamine for oily skin or shalaks calak calamine lotion..and over that u can apply ur make up

  6. happy June 6, 2013 at 5:39 pm #

Tejupriya, which compact do u use?

    • Profile photo of TejuPriya
      TejuPriya June 6, 2013 at 6:24 pm #

happy im using colorbar compact..u should try maybelline matte finish..its good but i could find a matching shade..i bought chambor oil free compact, yet to try..as said im keeping it minimal..whatever is u buy just check for comedogenic ingredients and do patch test just to be double sure

      TejuPriya June 6, 2013 at 6:33 pm #

happy instead of bb creams why dont u try kaya nourishing day or night cream with fairness..using that i as a part of cpp regimen..they are oil free, non comedogenic, safe on acne skin..only con is 50ml costs 990 rupees..they lighten scars and have spf too..just add a oil free moisturiser and u are good to go..always play safe with acne

I saw your question now , sorry Happy. Yes you shouldnt choke your skin with too much liquid makeup which will undoubtedly sink into your pores at some point because of th e humid weather and will meltdown and cause you massive discomfort at some point. So as Tejupriya said Keep it simple.

Keep the full routine with foundation (I`d suggest
Faces Oilfree foundation -they have yellow tones ,

    Lakme absolute skin cover and

for concealer MAC studiofix or Colorbar full cover pot concealer

and a light dusting of Maybelline Dream matte powder or MAybelline clearglow ) for special evenings and dates.

For regular use , slap on a sunscreen (suncote gel) ,

or a moisturiser with spf (You can add a drop of your foundation with this to get a li`l more coverage)

then top up lightly with layers of a powder – say MAC studiofix or Inglot AMC powder or Maybelline clearglow ).

Then take a spray bottle filled with chilled water amd lightly mist it over your face (lightly ) to take off the slightly powdery look.

To control oiliness you may use a mist (filled 1/4 with milk of magnesia and and the rest water and spritz this on your face from time to time ).

You`ll get Milk of MAgnesia (it`s actually a laxative but it controls oiliness by absorbing it very well ) at any pharmaceutical store at a nominal price. (56 bucks -from Dey`s ). Hope this helps more and confuses less. Yours sincerely , Keepcalm – if you have any more queries in this department – ask away :D

  8. happy June 7, 2013 at 10:39 pm #

Thanks Keepcalm. I do not have very oily skin..but combination. I was considering Revlon colorstay, derma mix or Bourgois Healthy mix . What do u think ?

Hey AM, what’s a good face bleach to use ? Lesser of all evils !

  14. jigs June 21, 2013 at 11:52 am #

Hi Tejupriya, what may not be necessary for you may be necessary for others, we all have different needs :)
I understand the harmful effects of bleach and hence requested AM to suggest a product which is lesser of all evils :)

    • Profile photo of TejuPriya
      TejuPriya June 21, 2013 at 12:32 pm #

      AM June 21, 2013 at 12:36 pm #

Honestly, Jigs, I don’t know which exact brand offers a bleach safe enough for acne prone skin. The main ingredient of bleaches is hydrogen peroxide, which actually helps reduce acne and dark marks. I guess the problem happens with the cream base of the bleach product. I’ll keep it in mind and let you know if I come across an acne-safe bleach, okay?
