herbal ayurvedic acne scar pimple marks treatment cream India

Natural pimple marks and acne scar creams

This is a list of natural pimple marks and acne scar removal creams in the Indian market. These claim to be herbal / Ayurvedic pimple marks and acne scar treatment formulas using herbal / Ayurvedic active ingredients.

These herbal creams are for treatment of acne scars and dark pimple marks left after a pimple.

See our list of best herbal / ayurvedic spot treatment creams in India if you are looking for herbal remedies for spot treatment of pimples and acne.

Also see our recommendations for the best ayurvedic medicine for acne in the Indian market.

It is important to understand that no matter how natural or herbal a product claims to be, it may still contain harmful chemicals in the form of artificial fragrances, preservatives and synthetic colours.

Read why herbal products are not necessarily safer.

Herbal / Ayurvedic Pimple Marks and Acne Scar Treatment Creams in India

NOMARKS cream for oily skin prone to acne

Claim: NOMARKS cream is enriched with natural actives and anti-oxidants. It provides a pimple-mark free glowing fairness in just 4 weeks. 100% natural actives, antibacterials and antioxidants present penetrate deeper layers of skin to prevent acne marks and occurrence of pimples. With regular use, you can expect Nomarks cream to lighten dark pimple marks. It can also be used as a spot treatment for a mild case of pimples.

So much for the claims. What do we think of this cream? One of our readers left a comment, “I tried Nomarks once. After that, I was ALL marks!”. So this cream is not safe for acne prone skin.

Eraser Ayurvedic PA Skin Cream

(note the PA at the end, this is the scar removing version)

Claim: Eraser’s 100% ayurvedic formula provides an effective, natural and safe and gentle way to lighten and erase pimple marks, burn marks, injury marks, pregnancy or obesity stretch marks and stitch marks. Eraser PA cream is also particularly useful under eye dark circles and discolouration of skin. Eraser PA’s unique blend of herbal ingredients helps to precisely deliver vitamin E right down into torn skin tissue. This helps the collagen layer of the skin to heal, and diminish the appearance of marks – in most cases making them disappeared altogether.

Eraser Plus

Claim: With it’s non-greasy base, Eraser Plus is an herbal anti-marks cream, preventing and protecting the skin against scars, hyper pigmentation, blemishes, under-eye dark circles and wrinkles.

Both the Eraser creams mentioned in the list contain Wheat Germ oil, one of the most comedogenic substances, which means it is extremely likely to cause or worsen your acne and pimples. What makes these companies come up with formulations that actually cause acne instead of curing it?

Vicco Turmeric skin cream in IndiaVicco Turmeric Cream WSO – Without Sandalwood Oil

Claim: Turmeric powder in cream base is useful in pimples and acne. Regular use of Vicco Turmeric WSO Cream improves tonal quality of skin making it radiant. Read a detailed review of Vicco Turmeric skin cream for pimples and acne scars here.

Vicco Turmeric cream, in both the original oil base version and the newer Vicco Turmeric WSO (without Sandalwood Oil) has been reported as causing acne.

Kumkumadi Tailum (various brands)

Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala is a popular brand of Kumkumadi Tailum.

Claim: With Saffron as the main ingredient Kumkumadi Tailum (Thailum/Tail) is an ancient Ayurvedic recipe for improving skin texture, acne, acne scars, pimple marks, under-eye dark circles and wrinkles. This is a thick herbal oil and has been known to work well on acne-prone skin.

Fabindia Vitamin E De-pigmentation Cream

fabindia-depigmentation-cream reviewClaim: An intensive skin lightener and natural de-pigmentation treatment that evens out the skin tone. It controls melanin production to prevent skin from darkening and removes age spots, freckles and blemishes. Contains no harmful bleaches and is Hydroquinone free.

Fabindia De-pigmentation cream lists Isopropyl Palmitate as the 3rd ingredient, so its concentration in the cream must be significant. The problem is, Isopropyl Palmitate is rated high in terms of its comedogenic (pore clogging, acne causing) property. So it is likely that Fabindia De-pigmentation will cause pimples on your acne-prone skin.

Don’t believe it? Read first-hand accounts of people breaking out from FabIndia De-pigmentation cream here.

Lotus Herbals Papayablem Papaya-N-Saffron Anti Blemish Cream

Whatever marks Papayablem claims to fade, acne marks are probably not one of them. If this thick cream does not first break you out (it has done to many), it can brighten your complexion somewhat. But that’s where the benefits end. Papayablem contains almond oil, apricot kernel oil and clove oil. Chances are, acne prone skin cannot tolerate these oils without breaking out. If you are looking for a good herbal cream for fading acne scars, don’t waste your money on this. Papaya is an excellent skin lightening ingredient, just that this formulation is not suitable for acne prone skin.

Lemon for fading acne scars (home remedy)

Lemon contains citric acid that can help fade dark pimple marks. But lemon can be harmful for acne prone skin if not used properly. The very citric acid can irritate the skin and cause more acne in turn. Read here about using lemon to fade pimple marks safely.

Tread carefully with these creams and treatments, do a patch test on part of your face before using any of these formulations on your whole face.

If you are not particular about using herbal-only formulations, Glyco 6 and Retino-A are two medical grade options for acne scar treatment.

Have you used any herbal or Ayurvedic cream for acne scars and pimple marks?

Kaif, see this list of 50+ daily triggers of acne to check if there might be some things in your environment that are aggravating your acne: http://acnemantra.com/daily-acne-triggers/ Also check out this daily acne regimen: http://acnemantra.com/acne-regimen-indian-skin-men-women/ This will help you identify the right skin care habits and products that should help you.

Apart from this, do visit a good dermatologist who will prescribe medicines for some time. You can use the medication along with the above two resources mentioned. If you have any questions, just post here.

      Good luck!

I have been recommended by a freind to use Eraser cream.
I have a nice skin but due to the sun get some pigmentation.
Also swimming or beingout in the sun darkens my skin a bit.
Is it advisable for me to use ERASER cream
Your quick answer will be appreicated

Hamida, since you are out in the sun and swim too, you’ll benefit more from using a water-resistant sunscreen during the day. If you do not have acne prone skin, you can use a pigmentation lightening treatment such as Eraser, although there are more effective formulas available in the market. Eraser is not suitable for acne prone skin.

Raheem, if the scar has any raised area, use of silicone gel sheets will help. If you cannot get your hands on silicone gel / sheets, you can use Mederma cream (Rs. 600 for 20gm). You can buy Mederma from a medical store or online shopping websites. Mederma is claimed to be safe for use on the face. Mederma will work faster and better than Eraser for this type of scarring.

First of all very informative article. I have a querry its regarding acne, pimple and scars i.e. on my back its realy horrible , my whole bacle is cover with either acne, pimple if not then dark spots.. i have done all the home remides.. is kumkumadi tailum wiill be effective.. if not can you suggest some other remidies..\
Please do reply..as im in urgent need

    Thanking you,
    Sana Shaikh

Sana, it sounds like your back acne is severe. My suggestion would be to spend no more time with home remedies (you’ve already tried all of them anyway) and go to a dermatologist. You need actual medication for this kind of acne – it will bring the acne situation under control rapidly. Then you can try home remedies for maintenance.

You can resolve acne scarring problem once acne is under control. Acne is the more urgent problem right now. Kumkumadi Tailum or any such remedies will not help and may even worsen the acne. Don’t damage your skin just because you want to find that elusive home remedy which will wipe out all back acne in a swipe.

I need a little more information than this to tell you anything. Do you still get pimples? If so, you will need to address that first. Are your “scars” actually dark marks without any pitted scarring? Is there a specific reason you only want to use ayurvedic products? There are quite a few options for reducing dark marks and to some extent pitted scarring. Let me know.

Thank you for the very informative article. I am 24 years old and I have pimple scars and marks all over my cheeks, what I would like to know is whether I could use kumkumadi tailum inorder to reduce both the scars and marks. I would also like to know if your recommendation for any particular skin treatment like chemical peeling, microdermabrasion etc

    • Profile photo of AM
      AM May 6, 2013 at 12:58 am #

Nisha, I would advise experimenting with Kumkumadi Tailum only if you have altogether stopped getting any new pimples. More specifically, if your skin is now APST Type 2 leaning towards APST Type 1. My scar treatment of choice will depend on how deep the indented scarring is. Still, I would begin with chemical peels to lighten the dark marks. That itself makes the face look better because as hyper pigmentation around depressed scars fades, they automatically “look” less deep. After that, I would ask for a microneedling treatment. But it also depends on who your doctor is. Microdermabrasion is more like a peeling facial that will not show too much improvement for dark spots and almost no improvement with depressed acne scarring. Dermabrasion is a higher intensity treatment. Laser acne scar treatment would be my last choice.

Thanks for the article,I have had a really bad skin since my primary school,I had pimples 4 like 5 years n I was left with marks n I tried everything n nothing worked.recently a horrifying acne appeared n it went away n m left with bad marks on my face, any recommendations?4rm sourh africa

    • Profile photo of AM
      AM May 7, 2013 at 3:22 am #

Lebo, if these marks are dark marks and not indented scarring, you will benefit from using a glycolic acid cream. If it is indented scarring, nothing applied on top of the skin can bring major results. For that you will have to discuss clinical treatments with a dermatologist.

  9. kritika May 16, 2013 at 7:26 pm #

hey m really stressed now please help me. i had a really bad hard pimple 2 months ago and had a really bad time revovering from it . Now it has left a dark spot on my face(its near my right half of face) . it has been on my face since 25-30days. i have tried almost all products…i.e first i tried mederma but didnt brought any changes to it then i used glyco 6 it too failed then i heard that whitening cream works on dark spot so i tried olay whitening cream n it also didnt work now i am using eraser but it has not brought a slight change on the dark spot only when i apply the cream it looks faded but when i wash it off ..its the same …please recommend me some cream that would fade it quickly i m having my birthday on 25th and i dont want my pictures with such a big dark spot .

      AM May 17, 2013 at 10:57 am #

Kritika, the dark spot you mentioned can take months to fade completely. Mederma only works for raised “scars” and not dark spots caused by acne. That’s why you did not see any effect from it. Glyco 6, Olay Whitening Cream, Eraser etc. take time to work. Absolutely nothing will take away the dark spot within 1 or 2 weeks. Using more and more products in that area will increase skin irritation leading to redder, darker spot, which can make it look worse. I suspect this is what is happening, and so the results you are getting are worse than what you might have noticed if the spot was left alone. Here’s a plan until your birthday (7 days to go):
      1. AHAGlow face wash morning and evening, also wash the spot with AHAGlow. Leave AHAGlow on the spot for a minute or so and wash it off.
      2. At night apply Kaya Skin Clinic Pigmentation Reducer with Spot Reducing Agents on this spot.
      3. During the day, every day, use Lotus Herbal 3-in-1 Daily Sunblock SPF 40 make sure to dab extra on this spot.

Now for the day of the birthday, your only saviour is a concealer. Have you used a concealer before? If you have a Colorbar counter in your city, visit it. Ask for Colorbar Full Cover Concealer in your match. It is a small pot with full coverage. The sales assistant will show you how to hide the spot. If you don’t have access to a Colorbar counter, order their stick concealer online. The stick comes in 3 shades and unless you are quite dark, the medium shade will work for you. The stick may not cover as well as the pot concealer but will still help. With the use of a concealer, your photos will look much better. Concealed area will look just like skin. Do not rub the concealer, just dab, dab, dab.

    Hi,thank you for great article.

    i have 2 problems:

1.i have acne scars in the form of holes on my cheeks, and have been using mederma

2.i have comparatively more oily and shiny nose as compared to my other parts of face

    please help…

      AM June 2, 2013 at 4:56 am #

Hi Shashank, Mederma only helps with “raised” scarring, so you’re not going to see much of a difference with depressed acne scars. I’ll be posting a whole skin care routine for oily to very oily skin in the near future, so stay tuned.

Hi Lipika..Just pick one regimen and it has a defined set of products..
first figure out your skin type
Starter regimen is little expensive and is moderate/severe acne..
Budget regimen is regimen within a budget..
Basic regimen is for mild/moderate acne..
Keracynl regimen is for mild/moderate acne..
For treatment of scars Look into CPP regimen..

Once the acne is under control but not right now,you can look into CPP regimen for treatment of scars..
further you can post your questions in the community section :)

  23. Lipika August 21, 2013 at 11:26 am #

my pimples are compltly under control.. i juz need to eradicate the black spots. so i have decided to use kaya skin clinic pigmentation reducer gel during night time. n a medimix soap along with it to wash my face.! is it ok?? please give me some recomendations. can i use AHAglow face wash??

    • Profile photo of AM
      AM August 21, 2013 at 11:30 am #

Lipika, Medimix is not the safest option for you right now. I’d suggest AHAGlow because that will also help fade marks faster by sloughing off dead skin cells. That combined with Kaya Pigmentation Reducer plus a sunscreen should give you good results in fading dark spots.

  24. Lipika August 21, 2013 at 11:47 am #

actually.. m really very afraid to use a sunscreen.. i dun know why.. but i always fear weneva i see a sunscreen. i do apply on hands n neck.. but wen the question comes to apply on the face. i m seriously afraid.! :( i fear of breakouts..
