Did you know you could reduce the redness of a pimple quickly by using eye drops? Do eye drops reduce the redness of a pimple? The short answer is yes. But it has to be a specific kind of eye drops, not just any eye drops.
The first thing to know is what causes the redness in the first place.
The redness you see comes from an increase in blood circulation at the site of a pimple. This is caused by flow of excess blood that body sends over to fight off the infection in a pimple.
What you need to look for in an eye drops formula is Tetrahydrozoline which is a redness reliever. This ingredient removes the redness in the eyes by vasoconstriction, that is, by constricting the blood vessels.
Visine contains 0.05% Tetrahydrozoline. Visine works on a pimple on the same lines as it does on the eyes – by vasoconstriction. It shrinks the blood vessels around the pimple thereby reducing the redness.
This is the secret behind Visine’s famous tagline “gets the red out”.
Eye drops will not get rid of the pimple or help in clearing it up though. They will only reduce the redness and to some extent the swelling too.
Also, eye drops are a temporary solution, much like makeup. Use eye drops if you have to rush to some place important and you don’t want your red pimple to grab all the attention.
How to use eye drops to reduce redness of a pimple
Wash your face, pat it dry. Now soak a cotton swab (ear bud) in eye drops solution and dab it generously on the pimple. Let it dry and dab some more solution. Repeat if necessary. Results will last for a few hours.
Visine Eye Drops are sold in India by Pfizer Limited. The price is Rs 8.11 (not sure about this) for 10 ml. Pretty cheap, considering what it can do.
An alternative to Visine in India is Vasozine Eye Drops sold by Sunways India Private Limited. Vasozine drops contain the same ingredient 0.05% Tetrahydrozoline and are priced at Rs. 21.50 for 10 ml.
It contains tons of herbal ingredients that soothe the eyes. It contains mint (pudina), camphor, neem, tulsi, haldi, sandalwood and honey among other natural ingredients. They all sound very similar to what you would see in an herbal acne product.
So while there is no guarantee ITONE will work the same way as Visine / Vasozine to reduce the redness of a pimple, it’s worth trying.
