43 year old and still getting pimples !!

0

Has been struggling for a long time with pimples. Done lot of treatments. As an emcee, has to appear on stage from time to time with make up. Though the severity of acne has come down over the years,  each acne leaves behind ugly, big , black mark and scar thereafter. I develop blackhead also which turns to acne eventually.

1. Please suggest a daily regimen.

2. My skin is very oily at times and dry & dull other times. When I start using some anti acne face wash, it becomes extremely dry and wrinkled. Then I have to stop.

3. What anti-acne gel should I wear underneath my make up during event ? And  what product should I use to wash off  the make up?

4.  I tried deep cleansing, moisturizing regimen for some time, then again the skin becomes very dry.

5.  I have to confess that no matter what, am addicted to sweets. I have tried and failed miserably every time I try to curb my craving.

People are amused and come up with comments like ” getting pimple at this age?” which is really painful.  Kindly help.

Hi subbulakshmi,

Join the club!i love sweets too..and am 33 and i stil get acne at times.
apply a retinoic acid gel all over your face every night.it wil reduce formation of new acne and also reduce existing acne(maybe you can use yugard as its mild and wont dry you out )if your skin iš dry from use of retinoic acid,u can use neutrogena oil free moisturiser.(this point is something i gathered by reading Acne Mantra innumerable times.I have no experience in using moisturiser)
when you get a big red pimple, apply either metrogyl or t-bact ointment on it and apply kojivit gel over the scars.
Good luck

And as far as facewash is concerned, you have to go for a facewash that doesnt dry your skin or make it oily either. i think you can go for kaya soothing gel.its gentle and mild and cleanses well.

Hi Subbalakshmi, You are not alone, though not been suffering acne for long time, but over a year now, my issue is also the same with dark marks recently. Best option for me has been a very simple skin care regimen with Sebamed cleansing foam/ or AHA Glow face wash  in the mornings, followed by sunscreen & compact. evenings face wash with A derma cleansing foam followed by tretinoin in the nights.  Tretinoin helps greatly with reducing oiliness, creating brighter smoother skin, reducing occurence of pimples & blackheads, though it does take time to clear up & it could be anywhere between 3 months to 8 months. I don’t use any other lightening cream or night cream like kojivit, kojiglow etc as tretinoin itself helps with lightening scars. You need to see a dermatologist who can prescribe retino starting with a low percentage & gradually upping the dosage. Do try it, it’s worth a shot.

As far as sweets are concerned, let me not even go there:) I fall in a much deeper bracket than you!!

Anti acne gel could simply be a Clindamycin Gel for you (Brand Clindac, Cleargel, Faceclin etc) face wash i’ve mentioned above, please do read all posts here about using non-comedogenic products to prevent further acne.

Hi Subbalakshmi, many of us here understand how frustrating it is to keep struggling with acne when we are no longer in our teens. The first thing I would suggest is to go over all your present skincare products and makeup and throw out any comedogenic ones. Please read through this post to understand why. This is an important step. It is important because no matter what treatment you take, as long as you keep using comedogenic products, they will keep interfering with the treatment and keep causing pimples. The link I mentioned will also help you identify and keep away from troublesome products.

Now on to a regimen. You may check out the Starter Regimen that has recommendations for a full set of non-comedogenic products.

Since makeup is an important part of your profession, I’d advise you to go through this bunch of posts to see which makeup products are safe for acne prone skin. Bioderma H2O is a safe makeup remover.

Want to thank my wonderful friends for all the useful suggestions and advice. Trying to incorporate all this into my daily routine now. As the first step, all those acne causing products are now out of my shelf. Thank you all. Regards
Subbalakshmi.
