That is…thoroughly debatable.

Some mineral foundations arent pure minerals they contain bismuth oxychloride which irritates skin and causes breakouts like bareminerals (not the matte version) and Sheercover.

There are natural mineral makeup brands which are light on the skin and they dont block pores but are very hard to get hold of in our blessed country. like Everydayminerals and all (not without high shipping charges)

And if you have a dog or a devoted boyfriend , I dont think it`s going to last very long on the skin XD XD

Hi sakshi, there is no real research on any one foundation being better than others.  In general if you have acne prone skin, you would benefit from using foundation sparingly & reserving it only for special occasions. You could use a powder foundation from Revlon or any other brand after applying sunscreen & pretty much this could be your everyday make up routine. Restrict liquid foundations for special days or night outs. Some good brands that are acne safe are Clinique even better series, Chambor Matte oil free foundation. I am using the Lancome Teint Miracle (for special days) & very happy with it. On normal working days, I use the Revlon Two Way Powder foundation over sunscreen & it pretty much blends well & gives decent coverage. Mineral foundations as such don’t last for more than 2 hours as keepcalm has pointed out!

I am extremely happy with my BareMinerals Matte powder foundation. The staying power is awesome – and if you don’t have any enthusiastic BF or dog – it lasts about 6 hours easily. But it’s not available in India – so if you are traveling abroad – do check it out.

@LD I so wanted to buy Lancome, but i could not find the right shade during my last travel. Does it have warmer colors? Is it available in Bangalore?

I still haven’t bought a liquid foundation – I had tried Clinique even better – but it offers very sheer coverage – almost like a BB cream.

I will try out Chambor too.

I learnt a trick on Youtube – mix a drop of concealer with 4 drops of moisturiser and apply with a foundation brush – this gives foundation like coverage and looks very natural too. I use Mac concealer and Ducray keracnyl matte moisturiser for this.

@anuja, Great to hear from you, how r u doing? Yes lancome is available in Lifestyle stores. I have the teint miracle, it’s pretty decent & shows up beautifully in photographs!! They have another one that is better than Teint miracle with more coverage, I forget the name now, it’s meant for concealing & smoothening lines, scars etc but I decided on this Teint Miracle as it’s lighter & I liked the ingredients better. No Comedogenic ingredients as such except Bismuth Oxychloride & Dimethicone. But both the options are oil free & non comedogenic as per the bottle label. The rep at Lancome counter at Lifestyle was thankfully quite informative & knew what he was talking about which is a rarity in itself here:) So I am assuming they do have great products with good staff. The only other brand which impressed me on that front was Clinique.

One tip for everyone, If you want to conceal scars, marks & acne, what I did for a performance recently was this:- I have the Dermacolor foundation pot from Kryolan , go pick up a small one for 350/- bucks in a shade slightly darker than your skin shade, scoop out a wee bit on your hand, mix a drop or 2 of any light foundation in it & spot it all around your face, then spread all across gently with a wet sponge or wedge, around the eyes, over your marks etc. Then wait for 2 minutes, apply a compact or bronzer with a brush & follow up with your eyeliner, gloss whatever. You’ll be stunned at the results!! Trust me, take a pic with that & see how flawless your skin looks. I do this for parties, performances & other important events & it never fails & stays put for at least 8 hours with light touch up with compact every 4 to 5 hours!

Dermacolor pot by itself is quite thick & a great product but difficult to spread , hence mixing with a liquid foundation gives you the benefit of concealing & smoothening all in one shot!

Wow that’s a really an excellent suggestion @LD Thanks for that I will definitely try to do that but hope that it will work for a 19 yr old boy like me..I have 2 questions for you..Q.1 Should it be good if I try to mix Dermacolor foundation with Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation? and second one is using a compact is necessary? if yes then can u plz plz suggest me a good compact? Thank you and I will surely let you know if I like Revlon Colorstay Foundation 🙂

I have used revlon color stay and have noticed that skin looks slightly greyish after a while. I am not sure if it’s just me or…Also, the photographs with Flash look ghastly even when you use the right shade. Best would be to try it out in a mall on your whole face and test it under different light settings before purchasing. Another thing that i did not like about this foundation was it was too thick and felt like it was sitting on the skin.

Thank you so much @Anuja mam for a review. You just saved my 700+ rupees.. Thank you for that…Is there any alternative of Revlon Colorstay foundation which is quite under budget 😀 ?

@lalitha , I have the dermacolor pot – and I agree with you it stays for quite a bit but only when paired with that dermacolor setting powder which makes it waterproof. I have gone swimming in it and it stayed put – atleast my skin looked even. But the problem is the flagship store hadnt come up then so I had to take a lighter shade because the random stores had only two shades – one too dark and one too light. I`ll go with a darker shade if I pick up the pot again (also the cap of the previous DC concealer has cracked 😛 ) The quantity is HUGE for the consistency. The boyfriend bit is true , yes. 😛

@moin – Then you can try the Revlon Dermabreathe New Complexion one – it`s cheaper at 515 bucks but it wont give much coverage – @acnemantra uses it… The chambor sheer mousse is also good but the shade options are pretty limited , that`s the only thing I dont like about chambor. Otherwise their makeup is very safe.  Heads up on taking the girl to the counter ;P I`ll keep on looking for new suggestions , and I`ll surely let you know if I find something. The indian market has very few reliable formulations as yet.

Or you can try what @anujaaggarwal suggested , the concealer mixed with moisturiser thing…I`m planning to try that out 😛  The white /grey cast that she is talking about happens if you are yellow toned or olive toned because Revlon foundations are pretty much on the pinkish side , apart from shades like sun beige. That way kryolan DC will give you more shade options.
