What are green tea benefits for acne prone skin?  Does drinking green tea help acne? Are green tea containing creams good for acne prone skin? Is green tea good for purifying blood and hence clearing pimples?

Recent research on green tea for acne shows that Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG) present in green tea

– reduces sebum production (skin oiliness, a factor in causing acne)

– reduces inflammation (acne is an inflammatory disease)

– inhibits the growth of P. acnes, the acne bacteria

In a clinical trial, 8 weeks of green tea use showed significant improvement in acne.

So yes, green tea helps with acne in more than one ways. Both topical treatment and oral consumption are beneficial. While using green tea acne treatment it is important to use appropriate skin care alongside.

Hiya Seemz, if green tea is curbing your appetite, then you could just skip it or drink it after meals. For green tea to help with acne, one would need more than a cup or two per day anyway, so if you are having problems with green tea, perhaps explore other nutritional options.

As for it causing breakouts, that is not common, but again nothing can be ruled out. It is often said that consuming products that increase internal body heat can cause acne flare ups. I’m not sure to what extent green tea would do so, since it is considered a potent antioxidant and a helper in reducing acne. So, yes, no clear answer, you’ll have to take a call and choose what feels best for you. I’ve not seen sudden flare ups in acne due to green tea in any weather though.

Hi @simmi greet tea is great for skin.there’s no discussion in this.but still there is a hurdle when it comes to internal consumption of it.a study in china(i think in china, but sure somewhere in asia) concluded that almost 95% of the anti-oxidants from greet tea we consume reach the retina of our eyes.if we got week eyes, in the era of tv and computers we all do, anti-oxidants reach the eyes which needs it most, instead of the intended part skin.

so try topical application of green tea.i used to make a thick syrup of it(just green tea and water) and leave it on my face like a pack for around 15 mins and wash it off.

P.S- recent studies ve concluded green tea as the third richest source of anti-oxidants.second-red wine, first-cocoa. tagging @catonthewall

Hi Simi, for green tea to act on your skin you will need lots of it and it may bloat your stomach. Do you have any weight gain problems or digestion problems? Instead you can take a big glass of water and a fruit everyday first thing in the morning. Even a simple fruit like banana is good. Fruits clear our metabolic wastes as well as they have decent amount of antioxidants too.

Hey….. 🙂 why drink green tea(seriously i don’t like it’s taste) when good ol’ yummy dark chocolate has antioxidant Flavonoid-2 times than red wine 3 times as green tea.
