Has anybody used a good make-up primer that worked for your acne-prone skin without causing any breakouts? I checked the NYX and Makeup Forever ones on Skingredients and found that they don’t have any acne causing ingredients – but they are quite pricy. I don’t want to spend so much on stuff i’ll use rearely. And MAC one showed 4 mildly comedogenic and 1 highly comedogenic ingredient. Any other suggestions?
Oh and if there`s anyone who lives abroad but is looking for a non-expensive primer -well the Monistat anti-chafing powder-gel has 1% dimethicone -basically the same ingredient as smasbox primer does – and works well , so if you know dimethicone doesnt break you out for sure, you can check that out. Chafing gels generally create a barrier over skin to prevent friction and bruises. If anyone knows of any powder-gel chafing gels available in india do post about it.
Some great conversations here.. 🙂 Dimethicone is only mildly comedogenic. Unless there is an allergy to silicones, they’re okay for acne prone skin. The reason products with silicone in them cause breakouts is because silicones sit on top of the skin. But you know that already. While that prevents makeup from seeping into the skin, it also prevents whatever is underneath to get out. So if you use anything even slightly comedogenic under a silicone product, chances are, it will go deeper because of the Band-aid effect of silicones, and clog pores.
Hi Ladies..Here are the ingredients for Loreal:(phew this one was difficult)
G788656 INGREDIENTS: CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, DIMETHICONE,DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, SILICA,ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, DISODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE,ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, FIL B30587/
The good news is it is not comedogenic except for dimethicone which is mildly comedogenic..I dont suppose this should be a problem..Saw some good reviews..and yes comes in a pot, hygiene issues..Plus its not exactly easily available..
Hi Anuja, do you have someone in Delhi, then you could ask them to send you the primer from Sephora, it is oil free & I have used it & it is excellent. Gives a nice matte finish & concealer or foundation over that will really give a nice finish. While you are at it, you could ask them to check for the Sephora Make up remover & Bronzer as well , the oil free one, that is also very very good & lasts a long time. So you put the primer first, then concealer if you want to hide spots, then a nice swirl of the bronzer all over the face , that’s it, It ‘s a beautiful night make up routine you could follow 🙂 How I wish they had online shopping for Sephora India.
I’ve found a few links on youtube that recommend making your own primer – and the methods they’re talking are pretty simple!
At least one video recommended mixing your aloe vera gel and your light weight moisturiser in equal amounts, and adding in a small amount of foundation/concealer. Other formulations are just your moisturiser_powder, whether loose, compact, or foundation.
Once my current pimple is healed, I’ll try this – it would mean that I don’t have to buy one right away – and report back!
I like the idea of using aloe vera, and I’ll see if I can skip out the moisturiser entirely – I’m combination skin, so I don’t want to go overboard on the hydration, and aloe vera will be enough.
Hi Anuja, I’m currently using the Colorbar primer. It doesn’t cause breakouts on my APST 2-3 skin. It is non-comedogenic, mostly. I notice that my pores look smaller with it on. Sometimes instead of layering, I just mix it with my foundation.
Before that, I explored Inglot, but that had some oils in it I think, so I skipped it.
Hi AM can you share a link of colorbar primer?
primers are non comedogenic ? Silicones doesnt break anyone out here ? sighs. I`d prefer silicone free ones – kores has one – but outrageosly expensive and not available here. -_-
keepcalm if i am not wrong silicones gives matte finish..
Oh here it is keepcalm, looks good..
*korres. The only kores available here are the stick gums. lol.
oh yes keepcalm,i saw this on youtube..Monistat chafing gel is most preferred primer abroad..its like $5..
*smashbox . what`s with me and typos today? okay , I`ll try out colorbar then. The thing is I dont know what they put in the lakme absolute mousse (not the lakme absolute skin cover , skin cover works great)but it broke me out – it`s incredibly smooth – loved the formula – but you know somepeople dont react well to silicones. Or maybe its not the silicone but something else in it which broke me out. Yes silicones just sit on top of the skin and if it suits somebody – then its great cause it can prevent oxidation of makeup and even keep the skin from getting too dry or hold off the oil.
Yeah i know right , it`s affordable and effective – just how i love my products. 😛
For a second I was like really a chafing gel for a primer then i did some digging to find out why people swear by it..Interesting discovery, then I checked for price on ebay..It is so affordable and apparently its HG for acne prone skin too..I am yet to try though..Its amazing how many options people have there right? 🙂
i know i know 😛 Hehe it feels like a win -win – good price , multiple functionality , and suits your picky skin too ^_^ 😀 Try and let us know 😛 hahaha , now all we need is , a delicious revolutionary chocolate dark forest cake with multiple layers of crunchies and nuts and more chocolate which when eaten in copious amounts will cure acne. 😛 That`d be perfect. 😛
keepcalm you are just amazing ;)..told ya this is your super power and rare quality to make people laugh, dont ever lose it .. 😉
god bless u..take care!!
So, Colorbar it is …
BTW, you are so right keepcalm – only if we can have an acne cure like you suggested!!!
Any other suggestions for make-up primers that work for acne-prone skin are most welcome.
hehehe thank you 😛 How about the Loreal base magique ? You can check that out maybe. skingredient it.
I went to the mall and tried out colorbar primer on my face…so far no breakouts. Will buy next time I go.
L’Oreal base magique comes in a pot; it feels unhygienic to dip your fingers every time in the product. I couldn’t find the ingredient list (already typed one) to skingredient it. 🙂
