How to get rid of persistant whiteheads?

0

Hello, thank you so much for this informative site! My query is: I have too many whiteheads, new ones coming up each day – large pores, no blackheads, and few rare pimples. Only the whiteheads and pores are a problem to deal with. I did consult a dermatologist who suggested Glomed and then Acteen face wash; I also tried Ahaglow – neither of which worked. I was also told to use Tretin-0.025% which didn’t work so well unless I left it on long enough to make my skin flake off. So far I have tried many face washes but nothing prevents the whiteheads. I tried Nixoderm as well, but it only worked the first day (I had ideal, clear skin with very small pores for only a day) so that was of no use. I exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Please suggest something that will stop the persistant whiteheads once and for all. I was considering trying the Garnier Pore unclogging face wash. On reading your site, I was also thinking of using either Glyaha Lotion or Glyco 6/Glyco-A in the night. Overall, what do you recommend as my regime to get rid of the whiteheads and prevent future ones? Thank you very much for your time.

Looks like you are caught up in a lot of trial and error with face washes and it is okay, it happens. A face wash is almost never enough to completely clear the skin. It is possible that other face products that you may be using apart from the face wash are worsening the whitehead situation. You will need to use the elimination method where you stop using everything and only introduce new products if necessary. If you do want to start with a clean slate, you could try the Starter Acne Regimen if it feels right for you. The Starter Acne Regimen is based on the elimination technique.

So for now, morning: Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam and evening: AHAGlow face wash and Avene Triacneal cream?
Is there any substitute for the Avene Triacneal cream?  Thank you.

You could use Keracnyl cream at night instead of Triacneal. Use it for at least 2-3 weeks before giving up on it. Acne treatments do take some time to work.
Otherwise, but only if you don’t see any improvement, try alternating Glyco 6 with Clean & Clear Skin Balancing Moisturizer nightly.
The main thing you need to do is to stick to a single course of action instead of tossing out creams and face washes and trying out new ones every now and then.
If none of this helps, you could consider oral supplements that help acne.

Ok, I’ll follow this regimen:- Morning: Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam and; Evening: AHAGlow face wash and Keracnyl cream. If all goes well, would it be ok to use Glyco 6 in the night alternatively after, say – a month? I’m a product junkie so it will be difficult to stick to the regimen properly, but I’m rather desperate to get rid of these whiteheads so I will do it somehow. Thank you very much for your help and your time! I will let you know how things fare after a few weeks.

Rotating Keracnyl and Triacneal might be better than Glyco 6 and Keracnyl. Maybe tell yourself that you will stick to one regimen for 4 weeks and reward yourself with some goodies after that. 🙂

An update: After following the above regime for about a month, the whiteheads did reduce in number (by about half) but some popped up everyday without fail. I was finally able to find a store stocking Avene products a week ago (using the Avene site’s store locator at aveneindia.com) so I picked up Triacneal (Rs. 1350) and also a bottle of Cleanance Gel cleanser (Rs. 1100). Will update again after using both the above along with Keracnyl cream (alternating with Triacneal) and Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam after a few weeks. As of now I’m not using AHAGlow, not for any logical reason…I’m just tired of using it. I thought that I’d add the Keracnyl face wash if needed later.
