Need suggestions regarding Starter Regimen

0

Hi AM,

this is my second post regarding my acne. I have this acne vulgaris condition on both my cheeks, earlier like 2 3 years back it was worse with pimples on both cheeks. with doctor’s prescription I used benzoyle peroxide and cetaphil and it didnt get completely cured but I would say it helped them minimize. I really hope there is a way that I could show you what I am talking about and then could get actual help on the regimen that I am using.

I started with budget regimen, used it for about a month and I couldn’t see any difference, so I switched to starter regimen (as its recommended for cystic and stubborn acne mine is definitely stubborn god knows about it being cystic.)

Its been almost 4 weeks that I started using starter regimen, the major difference that I saw was that my tanning removed and that one big stubborn pimple that grew up after every 15 days didnt grow this time, and has started to flatten. Apart from this the entire circle of acne is still there. I don’t know if I am doing something wrong, i went through the regimen faq as well and there was nothing that I missed.

Following is the routine –

Morning :  – washing my face with sebamed cleansing foam as advised in the regimen keeping it on fr 3 minutes (as per the bottle)

– applying suncote sunscreen ( I stay indoors though). during the first two weeks I didnt apply kojivit gel.

– third week onwards dabbing kojivit gel on the pimple area

Evening / Night – washing face with kaya cleansing gel as advised in the regimen.

– applying triacneal cream on the pimple area. during the first two weeks I didnt apply kojivet gel.

– third week onwards dabbing kojivit gel on the pimple area once triacneal is absorbed in the skin.

I am continuing with starter regimen with the above mentioned routine. Please advice if anything else is to be done or added. Really hoping to get rid of these acne and their scars for life. Also, I don’t use any make up. Just a lip gloss and an eyeliner when I go out.

Thanks

Vanshika

Are you using Suncote during the first week? Aren’t we supposed to be only cleansing face and appying triacneal during the first week? Though I will wait for people with better knowledge than me to comment on that.

“That means no face packs, no sunscreen, no moisturizer, no toner, no fairness creams, no face wipes, no pore strips, no facials, no makeup (not even eye / lip makeup), no shaving cream, no aftershave nothing.”

From Starter Regimen

No no .. First week only cleansing and cleaning as advised in the regimen. I started using suncreen from second week. nothing except sebamed cleansing foam and kaya skin cleansing gel, no make up liner or any thing( not even home remedies offered by my mother) i was and i am very careful in following the regimen to the word.

any further assistance please do advice.

thanks

Hey Vanshika, even I am only a beginner to this acne treatments, but I have seen somewhere AM @acnemantra suggesting to go on with cleansing only till acne stops, not just first week, lets hear from her. She will be best person on this 🙂

Hiya Vanshika, your routine sounds fine so far. It looks like there is some underlying problem that needs immediate attention. Many of us here have noticed acne going down drastically once any hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies and culprit foods and supplements are removed from the diet. There is definitely something going on under the hood that is continuously keeping the skin in this state.

Are you taking any multi-vitamin supplements or medicines at this time?

Have you ever been checked for vitamin D and thyroid?

How much milk. cheese, butter would you say you consume per day?

Let me know. We can put our heads together and try to figure out what’s happening that’s keeping the body in such upheaval. Continuing with the skincare routine you are following now may be a good idea until you can zero in on the root cause. Good luck girl, we’re all here for you.

Hii @acnemantra,

long back I did tell you that I blame my junk eating habits for this acne. But nowadays my excessive junk eating days are way behind me. Me and my husband however do go out for dinner or so on alternate weekends.

Ever since my marriage last year, I am having home cooked meal only. I am sure still there might be some food factors which havent left my body as yet. My uncle is a doctor he’s a child specialist but he did say very frankly that no skin doctor will tell me what he will tell me and that is this acne is because of blood impurification. I tried safi also, finished about 3 bottles and I didnt see any results.

So anyway, now a days this is what my daily routine is, a little bit off here and there. I still need to correct my eating habits.

Mornings – used to have fresh coconut water, but stopped in january felt too cold.

– then probably a carrot mayo sandwich / home made green leafy stuffed paranthas or any subzi stuffed parantha

– milk intake is nil maybe once in a blue  moon and its been a long time since that blue moon has come for me.

– yellow butter just on bread not otherwise and not on daily basis once or twice in a week. the homemade white butter that too when am at mom’s place along with paranthas nthing else(parantha’s with as less ghee as possible) but not in bulk and not on everyday basis.

– evening snacks include some snacks like a haldiram bhujia or bhelpuri light snacking.

– dinner is roti and subzi or dal whichever is prepared , along with cucumber or onions

I have recently started back on my intake of dry fruits i.e. almonds, walnuts cashews raisins etc. but in limited quantity and once a day, and fruit in take i.e. oranges, apples, grapes, coconut water. however still working on getting it on everyday basis.

When eating out the only items  I eat are – pizzas, noodles or the veg strips at kfc. (i am a vegetarian, who loves spicy food though I am trying really hard to cut down on spicy food). Sometimes when I really crave then I binge on chips and all.

I haven neither got my thyroid checked nor vitamin D as yet. I am  not on any medication, I avoid medicines as much as I can and no multi vitamin supplements that I am consuming.

I hope there’s a scope for me to clear out this acne web!! I’d really like my clear face back …. And I know with your help I will 🙂

Thank you

Vanshika

Hi @acnemantra

I was just going through another person’s question. Apparently his sister has the same problem as mine, but she has on forehead as well. I have only on the cheeks. But anyways, because of him I found a way to actually show you what I am talking about. So I have added pictures for your reference in my profile’s media section. Please do go through and help me fight this acne.

Appreciate all the help.

Thanks

Vanshika

Hi Vanshika, I saw your pics. I would have to say that your pimples look way milder compared to many here, but this is not to undermine the problem. It’s true, pimples do take a toll on our confidence.

Your eating habits sound pretty healthy, just like your skincare routine. Tell me, did you start to see pimples shortly after you got married? When did you first start seeing these pimples? Also, do you have any pain during your monthly cycles? Are you experiencing any unexplained hair loss? Do you have bodyache or stiff joints sometimes? I know, lots of questions, but I’m just trying to figure out the triggers, play with me here. :)

Hi @acnemantra,

the pimples have come down to this after a long time and hundreds of visits to skin specialist. I’ll post in a pic with actual acne circles.

i first experienced pimples in jan 2009, they were about 2 3 on each side. I used lemon juice everyday on them and they diminished by feb 2009. Now post feb 2009 i indulged in junk binging, everyday eating outside food, every day was s pizza day. This continued fr about 6 7 months and thats when my cheeks filled up with pimples. TheN started my doctor visits, at that time bz of my hectic work schedule i couldnt take care of my skin.

My eating habits have just started to improve. now about hairfall, i had pretty thick hair. I got a haircut in 2012, and my hair growth is pretty good, but this time around they disappointed me. but what i concluded the reason behind thEm was dandruff. From past 2 months i have started back on my hair care routine as well, which i completely ditched since 2008. I now wash my hair with dahi once a week and have got this new dandruff shampoo from the natures co (hibiscus anti dandruff cleanser) i have noticed some relief in dandruff and hair fall a little bit.

I get cramps when i start with my cycle. Just the first day, but that one pimple that grew was when i was about to get my cycle.

about body ache, i would say i have this pain in my right knee, i got my x ray done too nothing came out. They asked me to go fr physio as they thought its some muscle that hs been torn and hasnt healed. I havent visited the physio yet and at times i get unbearable pain in my shoulders muscle pain probably after too much work in the kitchen!!

Hope something clicks about my root problem!!!

Hi @acnemantra,

I have uploaded a pic from 2009 when these pimples had started to form on both cheeks.

Hi Vanshika, since you’ve got back on track with healthy eating lately, it is bound to show health benefits. Unexplained knee pain / joint pain can indicate vitamin and mineral deficiencies. You’re right about at an age where a full medical checkup would be very good.

Just the other day Anuja had posted about how her stubborn, won’t-go-away type of acne has drastically gone down once she started addressing the vitamin D deficiency and added fish oil. She did also switch to a 12% glycolic acid product. You will see her post coming out about it soon. In the meantime, do have a look at these 10+ medical tests to get done and you will feel clearer about your plan.

Drinking lemon with warm water with every morning should start showing immediate results. If lemon worked for you in the past, you might try diluting it with water and using it on the face too. This method doesn’t work for everyone because it can irritate the skin, but since it did work for you in the past, it is worth a shot.

Hi AM @acnemantra,

The lemon remedy worked for me when I had like 2 or 3 pimples on my face. When these circles formed and I tried lemon remedy on them, my stubborn acne failed the remedy miserably!!

Anyhow, I am gonna go ahead with a full body check up. Its high time I should rectify what I spoiled. As for 12% glycolic acid product ( I guess that’s Glyco A??) should I start using it right away or wait. Triacneal and Kojivit are already on the verge of finishing.  What should I use and how as in which product at what time?

Will get back soon with whatever results that come in after the check up. And thanks a ton for all your help. Not even a good doctor can be as patient as you have been for me and for every one else here on this forum. Glad I was shown the way to acnemantra.com . Some times luck just makes u land on the door step of a savior.

Take Care

Hiya Vanshika, if lemon applied directly on the skin no longer works, no sweat. Along with your healthy eating, you could add lemon + warm water first thing in the morning. This will hasten the detoxing action and add one more healthy habit. Anuja is getting good results with Glyco A, so maybe it is worth a try. Triacneal is 6%. Do post your test results. We’re all here for you. 🙂

Hi AM @acnemantra,

I got my results .. I was asked to get the following tests done by the doctor –

TSH, Prolactin, FSH, LH, CBC, Blav glucose( not sure if that’s what he wrote but its a glucose test), lipid profile, SGOT SGPT, sodium, potassium, vitamin b12, 25-hydraxy vitamin d and ultrasound.

According to my reports and the doctor there are three things that I have to correct – Vitamin b12 and Vitamin D (both of which are pretty low!!) and PCOD. Now for PCOD he says all I have to do is have a good diet and exercise, apart from that there is nothing much to worry for PCOD, he said no medication as of now for PCOD. Anyway, he has prescribed neurobion forte for vit b12 and d-rise for vit d. I have started  taking these since yesterday ..

Also, now I am applying triacneal twice in a day, and once its finished will start applyin glyco A. Just one query, I can apply kojivit gel after applying glyco A i.e. I apply GA at night and kojivit by day??

Will keep you posted on my skin improvement 🙂

A Bigggggg thanks to you and the members for helping me out 🙂

Hiya Vanshika, finally now that you know what’s going on internally, you will be able to take steps to bring them under control. Acne should clear up as a side benefit. 🙂 Anuja, Seema Kazi and I, among others are seeing great results from addressing nutrient deficiencies. Keep up with your new routine and you should start seeing skin clearing up as you go along. Kojivit over Glyco A should be fine.

Hey AM @acnemantra,

I’m back !! My apologies I was out so couldn’t reply sooner.

This vitamin d3 sachet and b12 have helped me sooooo much. I mean my words wont do any justice so I’ll just put up the before after collage on my profile (plz do check and I’ll be waiting for your reply then only not before that). And that is the result of taking my medicines for only 2 weeks, i.e. b12 everyday and d3 once a week. Apart from this, my knee pain has gone, very minute pain is still there and I am sure it’ll go away as soon as my body covers the deficiencies. My hair are back to how they were, thick and lustrous. THANK YOU AM, these capital letters are nothing in the amount of thank you’s that am giving you by each word I type.

However, I think I still am deficient in other vitamins like A and E and Zinc, because now the process seems a bit slow. I don’t get any break outs THANK GOD and THANK YOU. No acne yeayyyyy, but am just now at a stop at this phase only. you’ll know when you’ll see the after pic. I mean now I don’t see any major clearing of the spots. D3 and Vit b12 are to be continued for another month (I was told by the doctor to take both for 3 months). I am continuing with the starter regimen, I am using glyco A and kojivit. If anything else I should do please do let me know.

I just went through your supplement post and all the comments. So before I start on anything I just wanted your advice if I should start taking Oxidon, as it has A E and Zinc. and alongwith this I can continue with D3 satchets and B12 for the next month. And post that should I opt for a multi vitamin which has all the major vitamins, as I am a vegetarian I will lack most good vitamins I know that 🙁 so supplementing sounds a good idea. And if I should, then please if you can suggest which one that would be great 🙂

Okay, I won’t take much of your time, But THANK YOU once again.

Love and Luck always your way 🙂

Hi Vanshika,

It’s wonderful to know your great results! I’m very happy for you. Sorry, I’d have replied sooner – if a question goes unanswered the day it appears, then it quickly trickles down the stack below the newer ones.

Excess intake of vitamin B12 has been shown by research to aggravate acne. So take it until the deficiency is addressed, then limit to small amounts in daily multivitamins instead of industry strength formulas. Your doctor is right, vitamin D therapy is often done in 3 month increments. They may ask you to get a test done again at the end of 3 months.

Oxidon sounds like a good enough supplement for the things you are looking for. Perhaps try for a few days and see how you feel. You could add in a fish oil supplement which is good for overall health and people are reporting a glow on the skin. It’s all good omega-3 fatty acids that vegaterians sometimes miss out. Do not venture into seeds and nuts in excess as they often cause breakouts – limit the amount if you choose to try them. Fish oil has been discussed in detail in posts as well as community discussions.

One more thing, since you mentioned that the results of vitamin D have kind of plateaued. Vitamin D supplementation should always be combined with vitamin K2 as well as magnesium. You could search the net for why this is included. Many doctors also add in calcium. The one supplement I’ve found useful is Calcimax K2, which my doctor approves of too, has vitamin K2, calcium, magnesium and zinc. All the good stuff.

So at this time, my recommendations are fish oil and Calcimax K2 for you. You should give a call to your doc to check if Calcimax K2 is okay for you. If Glyco A and Kojivit are working for you, that’s fine then. Do use a sunscreen.

Hi @acnemantra,

I had just started taking the ground form of flaxseed a small tsp in a glass of water as directed on the pack, along with enough water intake as well. But have stopped as of now. Just been three days that I took it. Didn’t really face any breakouts. but just for precaution have stopped.

As per your recommendation I have got calcimax k2 a month dose, as the vit d3 is also left for one month. Fish oil I will start soon. Being a vegetarian a lil skeptical about using it, but will definitely try once I have convinced my mind.

Now, the most important thing. I don’t know if you have seen the before after pics of mine. These spots red spots or flat pimples. How do I treat these??? I don’t know if Glyco A is working anymore for me or not. My face is the same. No breakouts nothing, but those silly under the skin red spots.

Does exfoliation help in bringing up those spots and making them a proper pimple so they can then go away??? If so, then what is the best exfoliation product you recommend. And, apart from skin doctors, which other doctor/specialist should I consult for acne related problems.

My skin care regimen is the same. Morning sebamed foam, evening kaya skin clinic face wash. I apply glyco  A and kojivit during afternoon as I stay indoors. When going outdoors or when not applying glyco A in afternoo/morning I apply sunscreen. No make up nothing other than this. Now that acne is gone, I think I should focus on treating the devilish red spots under the skin.

Looking forward to your suggestions 🙂

Love n Luck

Hi Vanshika, try cutting out Glyco A for some days and only use the rest of the products you have with you. The red spots are something need to heal rather than fade. So by reducing the irritation to the skin, you can minimize their appearance while they continue to heal. A soothing moisturizer like Aloe Veda Aloe Vera Gel at night could be used to reduce the redness further.

Sebamed Cleansing Foam is known to reduce redness too. Since these are flat spots, this is all you should need to do. Perhaps avoid Kojivit on them too, and instead use only aloe vera gel to hasten their healing. If you like, resume flaxseed, but keep an eye on unexplained breakouts. 🙂

Hi @acnemantra,

Will do as instructed. However, I was just online and was surfing around, found this website – http://www.skinacea.com/how-to/fade-acne-marks.html#.U2vR__mSylQ

I thought the marks in the pics somehow represented the ones that I have. What is your opinion on it?? should I experiment more on my skin or should I give my skin some relief for a while and then see if I need to experiment with the ways mentioned here??

Let me know, you the expert .. waiting for your opinion.

Love n Luck

That sounds quite a bit like CPP Process. Since your acne is already under control, give it a try maybe.
