Hi Sonal,

Need one advice from you.

1) I wanted to buy this avene shaving foam – http://www.aveneusa.com/shaving-foam

Its ingredients are : – Avene Thermal Spring Water (Avene Aqua), Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Ceteareth 50, Triethanolamine, Butane, Methyl Gluceth-20, Bisabolol, Fragrance (Parfum) , Isobutane, Potassium Hydroxide, Propane, Triclosan

The label says “paraben free and non- comedogenic” . But when i check the skin ingredient tool i got below result

Stearic Acid is comedogenic
Triethanolamine is mildly comedogenic

2) I also check avene shaving gel : – http://www.aveneusa.com/shaving-gel

Its ingredients are :-

Avene Thermal Spring Water (Avene Aqua) (63%), Bisabolol (0.1%), Triclosan (2%), Glycerin (Haydrating Agent 4%)

The label says “paraben free and non- comedogenic” . But when i check the skin ingredient tool i didn’t got any comedogenic product.

So i am kind of confused. Need you opinion on this that should i go for Avene Shaving gel or foam or i should avoid both.

Thank you,

Ashu

Thanks for pointing out these products. These links will help everyone here.

Coming to your question- the shaving gel has only four ingredients? It is unlikely. Try to get the full ingredients list. Some info on this ingredient triclosan that I found on various places on the net:

It is an artificial antibacterial. It is banned in Canada for concentrations above 0.3% in cosmetic products. EU commission describes it as acute irritant (level 2) to skin and eyes. And it is also on the US NIH hazards list. Australian research suggests that it is a carcinogen and has potential to cause fertility, sexual dysfunction and birthing disorders. Yet companies use this ingredient in several products.

Triethanolamine is categorized as Acutely Toxic (level 4) by EU commission (and is possibly carcinogenic).

I will study other products you mentioned when I have some good time and publish the results here.

Even the Eucerin link does not list full ingredients. Did I miss it? But as it is made in Germany, i would trust it to not have harmful ingredients as the EU laws are pretty strict and they are much more advanced than other countries.

You know what? Eucerin Men Silver Shave Shaving gel looks pretty promising. Only Oleth-20 which is mildly comedogenic. Other ingredients look pretty good. I have not come across some of the ingredients before – for instance Piroctone Olamine. The only thing I would slightly worry about is TEA (which is Tri Ethanol Amine) which is restricted in CosIng – EU. I searched hard, but I am unable to find info on TEA-Palmitate other than this. Overall, it looks pretty good, but may not be available in India. I would love to try it if I can get my hands on it.

The Shaving Foam version has Laureth-23 which is highly comedogenic, but probably you know that already. Also, it has lots of TEA salts.

Yeah Pritam the gel version looks good to me too.  Thanks for your help.

I think you can buy on this site and they will ship it to India
