Hi Bls, if you are not experiencing any pimples with your current regimen, and dryness on the cheeks is the only problem, you do not need to make drastic changes to your routine. While you use besan + water on your T-zone, try using besan + milk on the cheeks. Apply besan and water only the T-zone and wash it off. Then do a second round of besan + milk, applying it to the cheeks and washing it off. Pat your face dry, making sure not to let the milk get on the T-zone, as the cream content in it could block pores. This is the smallest change you can make to your regimen to combat dryness on the cheeks.

Let me know how it works. If it doesn’t you could always add in a moisturizer product. Besan is very very drying to the skin, so if needed, you would switch to a mild face wash and that should help. But first, try this milk tip.

I do get big painful pimples on chin and around nose. These areas are normally red. Ill try besan + milk on cheeks.. thanks

Oh okay, you can’t be too careful with milk since it can clog pores. For the T-zone, then, besan isn’t enough. Presence of big painful pimples shows that there’s scope for better treatment. It looks like you will need to use a proper face wash in this case. How about you start with AHAGlow just on the T-zone and then take it forward from there? It is easily available and a good first step in acne-care.

Which aloe vera gel are you using? Not all brands make acne-safe aloe vera gels. Many add oils in it to make it moisturizing. Also, if you haven’t read this post about how to select products, please do so.

By the way, face wash and cleanser are used interchangeably most of the time – they are pretty much the same thing for 99% of products. In exceptions, a cleanser is usually to be wiped off, but a face wash washed off with water.

Its patanjali aleo vera gel i got it after reading articles from this website.. but was not sure about face wash.. ok i ll use AHAGlow for a 15 days and see. shall i use netrogena moisturizer for combi skin at night with that or shall i start it after 15 days??

Hiya Bls, Patanjali aloe vera is comedogenic, it isn’t acne-safe. This was the general impression long ago, but because of the absence of a full ingredient list, it was difficult to ascertain. Avoid using this gel on your T-zone altogether. Also, AHAGlow only on the T-zone, otherwise the rest of the face will become too dry. For the rest of the face you may try milk + besan carefully.

Neutrogena isn’t totally acne-safe either. You need moisturizing only for the dry areas, not the T-zone, isn’t it? In that case Patanjali itself may be enough. The most important thing right now is the big painful pimples and not so much dryness or wrinkles you see. So please take it step by step and try AHAGlow and do not add too many products at the same time. Once you know how AHAglow is working for your T-zone you could  consider adding in a moisturizer.

Hi AM,

AHAglow face wash has reduced the oilyness at my T-zone, I dint get ant breakout with this, infact my active pimple dried up soon i felt. But it makes my cheeks dry if i use it more than once.. can u please suggest me other face wash i can use along with AHAglow which does not dry.. may be like AHAglow in morning and other facewash at after office / before sleep. i had a habit of touching my face alltime,, i have made a point not to do that after reading your tips.

thank you AM

Hi Bhagyalakshmi, it’s nice to know of your progress. You could use Kaya Soothing Cleansing Gel for the evening – it will take off all dirt, grime, sunscreen, moisturizer, light makeup. You might also keep Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion for Sensitive Skin at hand for days when skin absolutely craves for something mild and non-drying. It won’t clean too much, but can be used after using any other face wash for a soothing.

Hi AM,

Iam back again for help. Thanks my face looks better than before bcoz of you.

I am using suncote, Ahaglow only on my T-zone twice a day and cytaphil for rest of face. And this is working for me. Just 2 days back i hv introduced Kaya Soothing cleanser. Now i have few things to ask. Suncote gives lil oily look and iam not finding Sunprotek in any near store in pune or on any e-shops which deliver in my location, is there any other option for suncreen without oily look and has good availability.

I want to use some cosmatics for office or any funtions which i stopped since 2 years. Can u suggest me any good makeup which works for my acne prone T-zone and dry sensitive cheeks. and i really want to say i love you.. thanks for help 🙂

Hi AM,

As i mentioned i have been using Kaya soothing face wash (got from flipkart) from 3 days twice daily but iam getting small pimple in oily T-Zone. Is this happened to any one else?? it says soap free but i lathers too much and may be causing dryness.. not able to make out actually.

Hi Bls, since you already have a working regimen with Cetaphil and AHAglow, perhaps just continue with that. Or limit use of Kaya Soothing Gel to evening only. Use Cetaphil + AHAglow in the morning. For makeup products, check out this bunch of posts. Zoray Aquagel SPF 30 is the community favourite right now. Suncote has long been retired due to the very issue of oiliness.

Soap-free only means that it is not made using the saponification process of mixing lye (NaOH) and oil. You see, soap bars are made using saponification process which makes them quite irritating to the skin. Face washes use sodium laureth sulphate and its cousins which are foaming agents, not soap. A soap-free preparation does not mean that it is free of SLS. AHAglow itself has a ton of foaming agents, even harsher than Kaya Soothing Cleansing Gel. So if you are doing okay with AHAGlow, then it is not the foaming agents in Kaya Gel, but something else. Limit its use and see if that helps.
