Which is the best waterproof sunscreen in India for acne prone skin?
Our recommendation for the best waterproof sunscreen in India for acne prone skin comes down to a choice among:
Sebamed Sun Care 50+ Very High Multi Protect Sun Lotion pH 5.5
Eau Thermale Avene Very High Protection Emulsion SPF 50+
Sebamed Sun Care 50+ Sun Lotion is meant for very sensitive and sun intolerant skin. Sebamed Sun Care sunscreen is water and sweat resistant for up to 6 hours, oil-free, free from paraffin, parabens, PEG bonds and PABA esters and acrylamide. It is suitable for both children and adults. Sebamed sunscreen does not mattify well and you might need to powder your face after applying it, but given all the other requirements, this works out to be a suitable choice.
A problem commonly reported with Sebamed sunscreen is a white cast on brown skin. That is due to its high titanium dioxide content. One way to reduce a white cast is to opt for a lower SPF since Sebamed is available in a multitude of SPF values. The price of Sebamed Sun Care 50+ Very High Multi Protect Sun Lotion pH 5.5 is Rs. 1500 for 150 ml.
Eau Thermale Avene SPF 50+ is very water resistant, paraben-free, hypo allergenic and non-comedogenic. Avene sunscreen is actually a sun cream that does not leave much of a white cast. It does not increase oiliness either. It is designed for normal to combination sensitive skin.
Mattifying high protection sun screen options are Vichy Capital Soleil SPF 50 Emulsion Dry Touch and La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Fluid SPF 50+. La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Fluid SPF 50+ is also highly water resistant.
Eau Thermale Avene SPF 50+ and La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Fluid SPF 50+ are our preferred picks for acne prone skin.
An important thing to know is that unless you are using an acne treatment alongside, almost every sunscreen type product is likely to cause acne no matter how non-comedogenic it claims to be. In that case, attend to skin’s need for acne treatment first, then sun protection.

Lotus Herbals and Neutrogena water proof versions are not recommended ?
Lotus Sweat and Waterproof Sun Block Cream with SPF 30 is too greasy, not exactly waterproof and has comedogenic ingredients (liquid paraffin) right at the top of the ingredient list. Not recommended. Read more about Lotus Herbals waterproof sunscreens here.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock – SPF 50 has been known to cause breakouts in acne prone skin despite its non-comedogenic claim. Breakout reports are mixed – it is breaking out some acne prone people but not others. I am not sure what exactly in it is causing breakouts. It could be iodine that is not listed in the ingredients, but just stated as an ingredient separately on the packaging. Iodine is controversial when it comes to acne. Will need to do more research on this.
Still, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock – SPF 50 is one of the better ones out there that provide a high, waterproof sun protection.
This is w.r.t Eau Thermale Avene Very High Protection Emulsion SPF 50+
This is what i found in their product range.. couldn’t find emulsion. Came action lotion/cream only and non comedogenic is mentioned in neither. Is it still safe for APST 3?
hi am what about bioderma sunscreens
