What do you do with the products that did not turn out as expected?

We are all in the same boat. Reading rave reviews about something, then spending bucks to try them out only to find that they are no good for your acne prone face. So what are the ways you can use those products. For instance – a product containing GA (Keracnyl/Triacnyl – am not using anymore – but still have leftovers)/Vitamin C (Kojimax)/Moisturisers (Neutrogena)/Sunscreens (i don’t even wanna get started) and so on. How can we utilize these for the rest of the body so that we can at least get some use of the money spent. For instance, i am trying out GA products on stretch marks and dark patches like elbows and knees and toes! Kojimax also seeing the same usage. Can i make a concoction of Glyco A with neutrogena oil free moisturizer and use it on my body as night time moisturiser? What say?

I am planning to post a pic of all the junk products that i am not using anymore. You guys are most welcome to do that too.

Good post @anujaaggarwal .the sunscreens that don’t suit my face, i use them on my i don’t ve a problem with that.but i got too many pimple creams-benzac-ac, glyco-6, tretin-0.025, himalaya pimple cream.can i use them on my leg, below the knees(especially glyco 6&tretin).they got really dark due to hair removal by razor.

i noticed himalaya pimple cream just made me look better when applied thin layer all over my face.but i am scared if it ll break me out as i am on a derma prescribed regimen now.

and what can we possibly do with compact powders that breaks us out?

Haha, Same here ๐Ÿ™‚ neoskin went to my hands n feet. 3in1 is too dry for my body so I have an unopened tube lying in my cupboard… hope I’m not tempted to use it.

Please don laugh looking at the below USELESS list… i have stopped using them and they are just lying there waiting.. I am ready to give them out for FREE ๐Ÿ™‚

Any takers ๐Ÿ™‚ ha ha … i guess not

  • Himalaya Bleminor
  • Himalaya neem capsules
  • vicco turmeric
  • Banjaras neem face pack
  • Banajaras saffron face pack
  • Garnier pure active scrub (Salicylic acid)
  • Clean and clear pimple clearing face wash
  • banjaras neem massage cream
  • banjaras neem moisturizer
  • Vlcc pomegranate scrub
  • himalaya acne pimple cream
  • Nature’s essence aloe vera gel
  • Lakme pore scrub

I might have missed few…

One word that would best describe the above list is IGNORANCE.. we all are… or atleast were till we hit this site.. thanks to @acnemantra.. and even bigger thanks to INTERNET..

No thanks to promising advertisements ๐Ÿ™

I had soo many facewashes like that, Clean and Clear, Pears brown, green ๐Ÿ˜† I got rid off them by using as handwashes ๐Ÿ˜† And then some face sunscreen like Lotus SPF 50 became body sunscreen and ended up pretty quickly ๐Ÿ˜›

The best way for the products which did not work, is to give away…

Last year i have bought so many moisturizers cleansers and toners..If the moisturizers serums and night creams dont work for me i give to my mother who has a dry skin..then close my ears when she scolds me for wasting so much money in skincare :p

Some costly products which was meant for acne prone skin which i have used only 3-4 days.. i sold it in a blog sale for half price ๐Ÿ™‚

But still so many are lying there without any use..

Some of them are..

LaRichay Posay Effacular Duo

LaRichay Posay Break Out Corrector

Amway Attitude Cleanser and Toner

Lotus Tea Tree Wash

Free Man Face Mask and Cleanser

Kaya Purifying Toner..(sometimes i use to quick clean my eye and powder brushes)

St.Ives green tea scrub ( I paid 1600 for this)

Deborah Milano Color Copy Foundation

& so many Sunscreens

List Goes on..

Can somebody suggest any use of the above items?

I have so many compacts and no clue what to do with them

Colorbar perfect match – I dont like this – eaily oxidises in pollution , low coverage

Deborah milano wet and dry powder foundation (nearly 795 or so was the price) – terrible – it didnt control oil and made me look dark and muddy

Lakme perfect radiance (requires too many touch ups and I dont know – it gives me bumps)

Maybelline Clearglow compact – )erm , I got the wrong shade the 2nd time (falling for the whole makeup artist`s bluff – to use a shade darker to look natural – but that works out only in brands like MAC with close shades , and MAC is super expensive plus might break me out etc etc ๐Ÿ˜› ย ๐Ÿ˜› – it`s looking too dark on me now – guess I`ll use it up to contour. ๐Ÿ˜› But these compacts are powdery and doesnt do much for contouring either

Then among facewashes – there`s pond`s activated carbon which I was using for my hands and legs (it`s comedogenic – so no good for face ) , Garnier powerlight (Salicylic acid doesnt work with my skin ) for exfoliating the foot ๐Ÿ˜› , then Garnier anti ageing range that I got as a freebie from some contest (used that up as body cream in winters ) ,

but now I`ve learnt from my mistakes and have singled out what products I actually need now. ( Tretinoin , .025 % for maintenance (I have kept the .1 % for extreme conditions ) , Kojivit (well , I think I need something stronger lol ๐Ÿ˜› ) , Ahaglow (I like this , not planning to change this anytime soon , and this sunscreen – Zoray Aquagel – but I would like a sunscreen which looks fresh for a long time – Zoray kind of oxidises on me.

As for @acnemantra`s idea – it`s totally valid. Glycolic Acid can be used to treat ingrown hair from waxing and all , and can be used to lighten dark knees and elbows. I think I`ll use up my glyco A in that way as well. Oh and people – you wont believe this – I had tried melalite forte for some dark spots – it was making my skin dry so I didnt use it – the whole tube was lying in my fridge – today I saw it has turned charcoal black. Dont go for hydroquinone people. It`s pretty harsh , and it`s better to avoid it.

Omg..i totally agree!..i have numerous face packs n face washes from body shop, fab india etc….i use them weeknd manicure and pedicure….its such a waste but…so many tubes lying around….

During december 2013, while cleaning our house for new year, my mum found numerous tubes of olay natural white, fair&lovely, gokul santol whitening cream, vaseline cocoa misturiser, boroplus moisturiser and threw everything into wastebin ๐Ÿ™‚

i hate olay natural sister used them looking at the tv ads and billboards, but did nothing white to her skin.instead she ended up with zits a month before her wedding.can you imagine? and it’s really expensive comparing other companies products too.

however i do appreciate them for putting up the whole ingredients list on their website.with the list and our skin tool.we re safe!

I think we can use all the glycolic acid products and Retinol products mixed with body moisturizer for anti-aging and skin lightening effect. They also prevent wrinkles and reduce stretch marks and may become good night creams. ย I have a tube of tretin 0.025% lying around. Thinking of using it with body lotion. Kaya pigmentation reducer/kojimax/and other lightners that i am not using for my face – are used on my back at night.

For all the compact powders you have – you can try dusting them on your feet – if they are sweaty in closed shoes/sandals ย (read somewhere – haven’t tried myself).

Face-packs can be thrown away safely – or mud face packs can be mixed with the mud of your garden or potted plants ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a few foundations which don’t suit my face, but i mix them with moisturizer and use them on body if i am wearing anything short. Legs look better than just moisturized look.

Giving away your expensive products to relatives is a great idea too.

Anuja, we can apply facepack on stressed areas like knees or armpits for 10-15 mins and then apply moisturizer. It helps remove tanning. I have used it for feet and found it useful but it leaves feet so dry.

I have a lotus lip balm which I don’t find adequate for long hours at office, so I got myself a maybelline one. My lotus aloesoft body lotion is greasy and sweaty for outdoor use. So I use both products when I am at home ๐Ÿ™‚

Shampoos anyone? What do we do? I have a shwarzkopf, sunsilk shampoo and conditioner. I have read in magazines that silk sarees can be washed with shampoos.

I use shampoos to clean my gold jewelries ๐Ÿ™‚ with summer and sweating, when i wear them they get black wax like things (probably dust &my sweat) and shampoo, hot water(not boiling hot), and tooth brush makes them glitter as new ๐Ÿ™‚

My jewels too get that black wax thing with continuous usage, I have seen amma doing this with tooth paste, now we have other glittering options ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah.the same treatment goes for my combs and daily hair accessories once a week too ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi @anujaaggarwal @catonthewall @acnemantra .like retinoid creams has anyone tried breaking isotretinoin capsules and applying it topically? on dark areas or pimples? is there any use we can put it to?

@anujaaggarwal – You speak real sense lady XD ย @bargavi – I use the not-so-good shampoos to clean my makeup brush (I have only one ๐Ÿ˜› ) , combs and sometimes tabletops XD Oh and if you have any kids , they can use it on their dolls` hair ๐Ÿ˜›

Hi @Anuja and all of u guys,

Ur post and suggestions are really good. Frnds Sebamad cleansing foam gives me itchness and painful white heads whenever i continue it, so its kind of not-so-good-product for me. plz help me how to use sebamad cleaning Foam I have nearly full bottle of it, its a liquid so I m unable to undrstnd how to use it on other part of body. Any suggestion plz.

I too have many such products shamask 1, sharose, shascrub, shazema lotus whiteglow emulsion, olay total effects day cream, some vlcc face packs, maybellene baby lips, neutrogena serum..aah the list is long but these r some i can recall at the moment. I am using neutrogena serum on my neck…have given shahnaz products to one of my relatives.

Lotus herbals had seemed lyk a promising brand but most of their products especially sunscreen, whitening emulsion, facewashes, foundation has all caused breakouts for me! It’s totally not for oily skins! And they are lying as junk at home! They surely put in the best natural ingredients but all of the products have at least one highly comedogenic ingredient!

And without a complete list of ingredients i don’t think acne prone people should risk putting it on their face.
